To The Victim Go The Spoils!
Last week we learned that Rihanna became the record holder for the most No. 1 songs by a female artist on Billboards Pop Songs radio airplay chart with 7*, passing Beyonce, Mariah Carey, and Lady Gaga who all have 6. This prompted a discussion between myself and a few friends as to whether or not her recent achievement was assisted by the incident that happened between her and Chris Brown. In the music business there's a saying, "There's no such thing as Bad Publicity." So here's my question Hip Hop Nation. Did the beat down, oops my bad, the abuse Chris Brown allegedly put on Rihanna boost her popularity propelling her into mega-superstar status? I'm not saying what went down between her and Chris was a good thing, but hey, she's getting credit for two songs that aren't even hers. Explain that!
*Billboard gave here credit for "Love the Way You Lie," and "Live Your Life." Two songs by Eminem and T. I. that she was featured on, so technically she only has 5 No. 1 tunes. Now Slim Shady is leading the league in Grammy nominations and "Love the Way You Lie" is up for song of the year. If he wins will she get credit for that too? Begs the question even more doesn't it. Hell I don't know, what do ya'll think?
Stay Hip Hop, Peace!
